Influence of steel ball material selection on manufacturing process

2021-07-30

The manufacturing process of steel ball is the key factor to determine its service life. If there are defects in the surface or internal manufacturing of the steel ball, such as shrinkage, crack, transgranular, etc., it will not only reduce the performance of the steel ball, but also cause the steel ball to break.
Reasonable forging, casting and heat treatment processes must be formulated in steel ball production. For example, for high chromium cast iron balls, measures such as vertical casting, rational use of external cooling iron and strict control of casting temperature should be adopted, so that the steel balls can have good solidification sequence and feeding conditions in casting, so as to obtain dense internal structure and reduce the phenomenon of coarse grains. The heat treatment process of steel ball determines the realization of its mechanical properties and the distribution of carbides. Because there are a certain amount of chromium and other alloy elements in the composition of the steel ball, how to give full play to the role of these alloy elements in forming hard spot carbides is also a factor to be considered in formulating the heat treatment process.
The commonly used materials of wear-resistant steel balls are: low carbon alloy, high manganese steel, high chromium cast iron, high carbon and high manganese alloy steel
Low carbon alloy steel ball has good toughness and reasonable price, and its service life is more than twice that of low chromium cast ball;
High manganese steel has good toughness, which is reflected in that the surface layer of AI can produce work hardening rapidly, and its work hardening index is 5-7 times higher than that of other materials, which can effectively improve the wear resistance. The premise is that it can be realized under the action of large impact or contact stress.
High chromium cast iron is a kind of wear-resistant material with excellent wear resistance.
High carbon and high manganese alloy steels are mainly alloy structural steels containing chromium, molybdenum and other elements, with high hardness and good toughness.
